Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a male, 6 feet tall, and weigh around 165 pounds. I recently consulted a dermatologist for Glutathione injections. My dermatologist suggested an intravenous drip (1200 mg Glutathione and 8000 mg vitamin C), but I am unsure about how safe is it to have 8000 mg of vitamin C in one take. A quick online research suggested that I should be taking Glutathione between 300 to 600 mg and no vitamin C is needed for skin brightening. I am still skeptical about having more vitamin C and less Glutathione. Can you confirm if the dosage prescribed is right? If not can you prescribe a proper dosage of Glutathione to achieve skin brightening, even tone, and remove tan?

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for stopping by!

I am here to provide expert opinions on your medical issues.

The injectable formulation dose recommended is 600 to 1200 mg once or twice a week, but various adverse effects are reported with the intravenous route due to possibilities of overdose toxicity or may be due to additives present in Glutathione injections. The adverse effects of the IV route are thyroid dysfunction, kidney dysfunction, and severe abdomen pain. Natural sources like tomato, orange, walnuts, whey protein, fresh fruits, and green leafy vegetables are rich in Glutathione.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the information.

I understand the side effects of Glutathione, but I was unsure about taking vitamin C (8000 mg) along with Glutathione (1200 mg). My major concern was vitamin C, I thought the dosage was too much. Please let me know if having a Glutathione injection would be enough for my intended purpose or if I should go along with vitamin C as suggested by my dermatologist.

Thank you.

Hello,

Glad to have you back!

I am here to help you get the best medical advice. Vitamin C dose should not exceed 500 to 1000 mg in a day for adults. It is an excess dose. I would not suggest it.

Thank you.
