Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Could I have given my new partner gonorrhea? We have only ever engaged in oral sex, and about a week or so later, he started showing symptoms and tested positive. He has since been treated. He says he had not been with anyone else for about two months before being with me. I got tested immediately, of course, and have tested negative. I am not sure how that happened. If he had it before, how did I not get it? And if I had it and gave it to him, will oral gonorrhea show up on traditional testing methods?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq, and thank you for choosing us as your provider for health care.

I have gone through all your details and appreciate your concern.

Both of you may have been previously infected with gonorrhea. Generally, gonorrhea does not show symptoms in most women, so it can go unnoticed. On the other hand, males might experience different symptoms, such as white or yellow urethral discharge and symptoms resembling a urinary tract infection (UTI). It can be transmitted through vaginal and oral intercourse, and symptoms can appear about a week after the infection. I would recommend getting another test after a week. If the result is negative once more, there is no need to worry, and the likelihood of being infected before is minimal. Gonorrhea can be completely cured. Both partners should undergo the same treatment, even if one tests negative. Meanwhile, it is important to avoid unprotected intercourse during the treatment period.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.
