Patient's Query

I have a hard cyst that is causing me pain. Wil this go away or should i get it checked? its on the inside of my teeth on my gums

Hello

Cysts or swelling on gums could be

1. Gum abscess

2. Tooth abscess

3. Gingivitis

4. Accidental toothbrush injury/food debris lodgement

5. Common mouth ulcer/canker sore

If that's a common canker sore or an accidental injury, it will resolve on its own within a couple of weeks. If the swelling is reddish and involves the gum edge along with tartar (hardened yellow food deposit) that could be gingivitis or gingival abscess. A Scaling and polishing procedure should be done to remove the tartar after which the gingivitis or the gum abscess will resolve.

If the corresponding tooth has deep decay, then that swelling could be a dental/tooth abscess. Dental abscess resolves on treating the decay. Please visit your dentist and get it examined to find what's causing your gum swelling and get it treated at once. Meanwhile, you can take mild painkillers like Paracetamol to manage pain. I hope this helps. Further queries, I'd be happy to help. Good day!
