Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 30-year-old male; I have a health query. Whenever I have a heavy meal, I usually take a carbonated drink, and I feel a lot better. Is it possible for the drink to help in my digestion? People say it is harmful to our gut health, but why do I feel like this? Can you give us insights on the recommended limit for consuming such drinks?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Carbonated drinks are usually fizzy drinks, help in burping, and feel tasteful, especially after heavy meals. Medically, occasional soft drinks are okay, but frequent use of carbonated drinks is not healthy. It contains high calories and is the major source of fatty liver these days.. Frequent or prolonged use of soft drinks can cause gastric upset, fatty liver, high blood cholesterol, and even risk of diabetes, considering high sugar contents. Once in a blue moon, a glass of soft drink is okay at your age, especially if you are physically active and can burn extra calories as well.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
