Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am wondering, can anything be done to slow down or reduce greying of hair? I have just started to notice my hair greying at the side of my head around the temple area. I was experiencing slight hair loss, but this seems to have stopped since I started taking high vitamin C, vitamin D, and Zinc every day. I can feel my scalp tingling and itching in the greying areas, with a waxy substance building up on the scalp. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. It seems that you have started with male pattern baldness along with dandruff. I suggest you start with the anti-dandruff shampoo like Ketoconazole twice a week. I suggest you take a hair supplement once a day and start applying Minoxidil one percent solution on the affected areas of the scalp twice daily. You need to continue this for at least two months to see the response. Hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am using Ketoconazole once a week currently, which does not help much in removing dandruff. Probably I should use it more often, maybe three times a week. I find it removes a lot of oil and leaves hair quite dry and bristly. As you suggested, I will use Minoxidil for the areas where hair is thinning. Any hair supplement you suggest? Do you know what is specifically causing this tingling and itching sensation on my scalp? I recently started using this Nioxin system 1-3 part hair product.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I suggest you to use Ketoconazole shampoo every alternate day, but once dandruff comes under control, shift to twice weekly. For itching and tingling scalp, I suggest you take the antihistaminic tablet Loratadine 10 mg once daily at night for two weeks. I suggest starting with the hair supplement containing Biotin and Zinc for hair loss. I suggest you start using Minoxidil 5 % on the affected areas. Hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
