Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 32 years old with a four-month-old baby, and I breastfeed her. I have been facing severe hair fall with hair in my comb and hands after I comb. My crown part has become bald with no hair, and you can refer to the attached images. I also see the hair thinning at the same time. Please suggest any medicine to stop hair fall. Also, my face and lips have pigmentation postpartum. Please suggest any moisturizer, sunscreen, or medication that treats my uneven skin.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I reviewed the attached images (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

Hair fall is a very common thing after the delivery. It affects around 50 % of women in the months following childbirth.

Following childbirth, estrogen levels drop (returning to their pre-pregnancy levels), prompting the hair follicles to enter the resting phase and fewer hair to grow. After about 100 days in the resting phase, the hair begins to shed. In the postpartum period, stress and undernutrition also impact hormone levels, influencing hair growth.

Changes in hormone levels before, during, and after pregnancy can affect hair growth. It is completely normal to experience hormonal imbalance after giving birth, and postpartum hair loss is one of the symptoms of hormonal imbalance.

I suggest the following.

  1. Ensure that you are getting regular, gentle-to-moderate exercise.
  2. Consume a healthy diet rich in nutrients, especially vitamins, to support your changing body and help its postpartum recovery.
  3. Take postpartum vitamin and mineral supplements as well.
  4. Take the tests: Complete blood count (CBC), serum vitamin D, B12, and TSH levels.
  5. Kindly do the following tests and follow up with the results.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

How about the face concerns? Could you please take a look and let me know?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Sorry to say that the image attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) is not opening. I suppose you are talking about hyperpigmentation. Also, it is common for pregnant women to get dark patches on their face, neck, and arms called melasma.

I suggest the following.

  1. Drink at least three to four liters of water every day.
  2. Moisturize your skin with a hyaluronic acid serum.
  3. Use a humidifier.
  4. Avoid long hot showers.
  5. Apply sunscreen.
  6. Avoid sun exposure and excess oil application on the face.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
