Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a tooth replacement done in my lower front teeth one year back. It is permanent. Now it is smelling bad and the gum is irritating and kind of itchy. What causes this? And do I need to visit a dentist? Or is this normal?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. Bad smell and itchy gums are due to the accumulation of plaque and calculus on the teeth. In your case, it seems like there is an accumulation of plaque and calculus between the prosthesis (the artificial teeth) and gum margins and below the gums. Due to the prosthesis sometimes a patient cannot clean this area properly which results in plaque accumulation. This plaque can inflame the gums and even can lead to loss of bone in that area. You must visit your dentist to get the teeth cleaned (scaling). Further, pay attention to that area so that it is cleaned properly regularly.

I hope this helps.
