Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife is pregnant and she might have Hashimoto's (heavily increased TG-Ab value of 1000-1200 IU/ml and TPoAb of 600), while TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), FT4 (thyroxine T4) and FT3 (thyroxine T3) being within reference range. Never had thyroid checked before pregnancy. A doctor is prescribing T4 and chinese medicine (fermented cordyceps powder), which seems to have limited effect on inflammation. While we are getting checkups on her thyroid every 14 days, my distrust for these doctors (they receive commissions on selling medicine) and TCM is high. Are there any OTC (over-the-counter) things we could try, or any prescription medicine I could inquire about at the hospital?

Hi,

Glad to hear from you.

I am here to answer all your questions.

I understand that you have concerns about your wife's thyroid health during her pregnancy and are seeking alternative options. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid gland, and managing it during pregnancy requires careful monitoring and appropriate medical management. While over-the-counter (OTC) remedies may be available, it is crucial to discuss any potential medications or supplements with your healthcare provider before starting them.

In regards to your concerns about such doctors and traditional medicine , it is important to remember that healthcare practices and approaches may differ across cultures. However, many such doctors and traditional medicine practitioners are trained professionals who can provide valuable insights and treatments. If you have doubts or concerns, consider seeking a second opinion from another healthcare provider who can provide a fresh perspective on your wife's condition.

Ultimately, the best course of action is to work closely with a healthcare provider you trust, who can evaluate your wife's thyroid health, monitor her during pregnancy, and recommend appropriate treatment options based on her individual needs

I am thankful that you have confidence in me to help you.

Please stay safe and healthy. Thank you.
