Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Please evaluate my health report. I suffer from health anxiety. Currently, I am taking Nebistar 2.5 mg.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

In your attached reports triglycerides are a little bit high (attachment removed to protect patient identity). All other findings are not that much significant. Your HbA1c (glycosylated hemoglobin) level is also borderline. So you can adopt a healthy lifestyle with more exercise. Regular 30 minutes to one-hour active exercise will be beneficial in reducing stress as well as in reducing cholesterol and blood sugar level.

For anxiety, a psychiatrist can be consulted and behavioral counseling therapy will be beneficial. If needed, the psychiatrist will prescribe you Fluoxetine like drug used for anxiety along with short-term Alprazolam course if needed.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Are the CBC reports fine? I have been reading about PV on the internet. It makes me anxious.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I was exactly thinking that you will definitely think about polycythemia. Here your CBC (complete blood count) result (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) is not that much abnormal. First of all rule out hemoglobinopathy like thalassemia by Hb (hemoglobin) electrophoresis by HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) method.

Secondly, the chance of polycythemia is very rare here as other findings are not suggestive of polycythemia like total WBC (white blood cells) count and Hb and hematocrit values which are not much high here.

If hemoglobinopathy is not revealed in Hb electrophoresis, then rule out secondary polycythemia by measuring EPO (erythropoietin) level and other causes like cardiac or respiratory cause if present. For cardiac cause EKG (electrocardiography) investigation is done, and for respiratory cause, chest X-ray is done. Repeat your CBC after two weeks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
