Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am experiencing symptoms such as belching, indigestion, nausea, excessive gas, and vomiting, which are caused by an H. pylori infection. I have a severe allergy to Clarithromycin and other medications, except for the following ones: Famotidine, Amoxicillin, and Norflox-TZ. Can I take these medications to cure the infection? If so, what should be the dosage? Please provide assistance.

Thank you.

I have read your query and I am sorry to hear about your discomfort. Allow me to guide you through your query. Firstly, please inform me how you determined that your current gastric symptoms are due to an Helicobacter. pylori infection. Have you undergone any tests to detect H. pylori? Kindly follow-up with the answer.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I have tested my stool, and although I could have shown you the report, unfortunately, my friend's young son threw it away. However, the report clearly indicated that I have an H. pylori infection. Additionally, I noticed a significant reduction in symptoms, nearly 70 %, after taking a low dose of Mox (Amoxicillin) 500 mg with two capsules per day for one month. However, I stopped taking the tablet Mox seven days ago, even though I had been prescribed it for one month. I believe that the tablet Amoxicillin was killing some organisms causing the symptoms. Since discontinuing Mox, I have experienced increased loose motion, reduced appetite, a feeling of fullness with smaller meal portions, and stomach pain. I always feel like vomiting. Please let me know if there is a chance of being cured with Amoxicillin, Famotidine (H2 receptor antagonist), and Norflox-TZ (Norfloxacin and Tinidazole), as these are the only three medicines my body tolerates, while others cause severe allergies.

Kindly help.

Warm regards.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You would have undergone a stool antigen test to detect an H. pylori infection. I am not sure who advised you to take Amoxicillin for one month, as it is not the standard medical treatment for H. pylori. Taking Amoxicillin unnecessarily for one month increases the chances of developing resistance to the antibiotic. Please avoid self-medication. Regarding your question about starting Famotidine, Amoxicillin, and Norflox-TZ, this combination is not an approved treatment for H. pylori infection. Please refrain from taking this combination without proper medical guidance. There is an approved treatment for H. pylori, which involves a combination of three medications taken for a duration of 14 days. I recommend visiting an internal medicine doctor in your area to start the approved treatment regimen. I hope this has helped you out.

Thanks and regards.
