How to increase hemoglobin levels quickly?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My father is 62 years old. We need good medicine to increase his hemoglobin quickly. His CBC report has hemoglobin with 9.9 g/dL, WBC of 38000 WBC per microliter, and platelets of 1,90,000.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the attached report (attachment removed to protect patient identity). The hemoglobin level can be increased with Ferrous Ascorbate tablet along with good elemental iron. Take tablet Orofer (Ferrous Ascorbate with Folic Acid). Now moving on to the main concern, your CBC report shows high absolute lymphocyte count and smudge cells are also present. You have to rule out chronic lymphoid leukemia. I suggest you investigate with flow cytometry investigation which can exclude CLL (chronic lymphoid leukemia) if present.
