Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I notice a lump in my stomach area, about 30 cm above a scar from my appendix removal operation I underwent eight months ago. The lump appears after I eat or drink something. There is no pain, only slight discomfort in the area around the lump. When I press the lump, it feels as if there is gas in it. I have a normal appetite and all the bodily functions are fine. I do not have fever or nausea.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • Your complaint is a lump in your stomach, which appears once you take food. I think that you mean to say a lump overlying the stomach and not inside stomach.
  • The most common cause is epigastric hernia, where the stomach bulges through a weak area in the abdominal wall.
  • Usually the hernia disappears on lying down, while in an upright position, a thrust is noticed. You can also feel a pulsation by placing your palm over the area when you cough.
  • It is not a serious problem. It can be treated with abdominal exercise or surgery.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am currently away from home and without any significant medical help. I am booked to return home in 30 days. Should I get medical attention sooner or wait until I get home? Is there anything I should look out for that could indicate that the condition has deteriorated?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • It is not an emergency. You can wait for a month or two.
