Hello doctor,
During my childhood and teenage years, I experienced a peculiar condition. Every morning when I stood up, I would involuntarily kick my leg uncontrollably while holding onto my bedpost for about 15 seconds. Despite seeking medical help, no diagnosis was made. In 1980, I was involved in two car accidents, and after the first one, I had a grand mal seizure within a gap of a month. The only other seizures I have experienced were during my pregnancies when my medication levels dropped significantly due to increased urination. However, I have been seizure-free for the past 21 years, although I have chosen to continue taking my medication because I had seizures when I stopped. The kicking in my leg has persisted over the years but only occurs when I stub my toe or step on uneven ground, which is usually a manageable situation for most people. When these incidents happen, it feels as though my leg is not even there, and without something or someone to hold onto, I lose control and fall. As a result, I have suffered multiple sprained ankles, knee injuries, and rib injuries, with my kneecaps feeling like jigsaw puzzles. I estimate that I have fallen over 100 times throughout my life, requiring me to be cautious with every step I take. I cannot simply walk and engage in conversation simultaneously. Recently, in the past couple of months, I have experienced an increase in falling incidents, occurring at least once daily. To ensure I have a proper feeling in my leg for walking, I find it necessary to tap my left foot or put pressure on it before taking each step. However, even with these precautions, I often lose stability, my leg starts kicking uncontrollably, and I end up falling. This escalating issue has become quite distressing. I sought assistance from an orthopedic specialist who conducted an MRI and provided me with an ankle brace, but unfortunately, these interventions did not alleviate the problem. Additionally, in the past month, I have experienced a sensation akin to a mild electric current in my leg on two occasions. Through these repeated falls, I have developed persistent deep tissue pain in my left hip, which occasionally coincides with the leg problem. I suspect that these symptoms may be indicative of a nerve-related issue, potentially resulting from the numerous falls I have experienced. I am simply seeking some form of explanation for my condition. Thank you.
