Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

It has been 22 months since my last exposure to HIV. I had done the TRI-DOT test, and comb AIDS test eight months after exposure to HIV, but they were negative. However, I have been having symptoms such as slight ear pain and sore throat for the past six months. And also, I get cold easily and have a runny nose every morning. I have had symptoms of IBS and poor gut health for the past three years. Is it possible that I have common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) and have not developed antibodies to HIV due to CVID?

I had taken HIV 1 and 2 CMIA tests after ten months of exposure which were negative. Are HIV CMIA tests the fourth-generation tests, that can detect HIV antigens? My last test was a comb AIDS test (taken one year after exposure) which was negative. Is there a possibility that I am infected with HIV?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. If the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibodies test is negative after three months of last exposure, it is conclusive, provided there is no further risk exposure. The attached report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) is HIV-negative and is an antibody test. It is conclusive. It is not a fourth-generation test. Your symptoms are non-specific and not related to HIV (as all the HIV tests are negative). Immunodeficiency states will have severe other comorbidities.

I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Consult your physician for examination and management of your symptoms.
  2. Get involved in activities of your interest.
  3. Do yoga, meditation, and exercise.
  4. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

The laboratory I got tested in informed me that it was a fourth-generation test. Are there any documented cases of people with CVID not developing antibodies to HIV or not developing antibodies after three months? Is it possible for someone to be immunosuppressed without knowing?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The test reports for HIV antibodies were negative. It does not matter if it is a fourth-generation test or not. Considering your symptoms and negative HIV tests, you need not worry about HIV or common variable immunodeficiency (CVID).

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
