Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I had protected condom sex, the condom was intact, unprotected insertive oral sex, and I ingested little quantity of breast milk from a sex worker. I started PEP (Post-exposure Prophylaxis) three hours after exposure, Dolutegravir, Emtricitabine, and Tenofovir Alafenamide tablet once daily. This is my 27th day. Will I go into seroconversion? I have had a light fever of 100 degrees for the past two days. Please help me with what to do.
Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your query. The chances of transmission of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) by single-protected intercourse is almost nil if the condom is used in a proper manner. The chances of unprotected oral sex are almost nil unless there are bleeding wounds in the oral cavity. Anyway, it is good that you have been initiated on PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis). The chances of HIV tests coming positive are low to almost nil if the risk is limited only to the acts mentioned. The symptoms are non-specific and need not be due to HIV. Hope for the best.
Kind regards.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thanks for the reply.
My major concern was that I ingested breast milk, and at that time, I had an oral ulcer. Can HIV be transmitted through breast milk?
