Are medications needed in asymptomatic COVID-19 patients?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother has completed 14 days of COVID-19 medication as instructed. She is currently under tablet Dolo twice a day and tablet Ivermectin once a day. She is doing fine now. Sometimes there is mild fever once a day and weakness due to the medicines. Can you guide me further ?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Did she get COVID-19 RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction ) done before?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

She was tested positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR. Since then, she is on tablet Ivermectin once daily and tablet Dolo twice daily along with other Multivitamins, Antibiotics, and medicines for gastric complaints. It has been 14 days now, and she feels much better with no coughing and occasional mild fever. She is feeling weak because of taking antibiotics. So I want to know what I shall do further?

Answered by Dr. Anuj Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Medicines are fine. Now, repeat RT-PCR for COVID-19 again to check if she is negative. If it is negative, then you can consider the completion of isolation.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your advice. Should I continue with Ivermectin and Paracetamol if she is still tested positive but without symptoms?

Answered by Dr. Anuj Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If there are no symptoms, you can stop her medications. Please keep her in quarantine till you get a negative report result in RT-PCR for COVID-19.
