Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 17-year-old female. I will turn 18 in three weeks. I have continuous acne problems. I have taken Accutane, and my skin has healed. Now it is back, and I have tried everything out there. I started taking nutrient supplements as most of my acne is hormonal. I considered taking zinc, vitamin A, and omega-3 fatty acids. Do you think this is safe? Nothing has worked, and I think I need to start treating my acne from the inside out. Are there risks?

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

I have seen your query and concern and examined your picture (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity).

Acne vulgaris is a common skin problem in adolescents and adults. It involves pilosebaceous follicles or oil glands and is therefore seen in areas where oil glands are dense, like the face, chest, back, and upper arms are common sites of involvement. It requires a longer duration of treatment till around 25 to 28 years of age. So, keep hope. You will be alright, but you need patience. In your case looks like grade two to grade three acne.

  1. You can start using Faceclin gel (a combination of Clindamycin and Nicotinamide) during day time over pimples and Microbenz (Benzyol peroxide) 3.5 percent gel at night hours over the whole face for around two to three months.

  2. I suggest you take capsule Doxycycline 100 milligrams once daily for six weeks. Overuse of supplements and vitamins can aggravate your acne. They are known to cause acneiform eruptions.

  3. For cleaning your face, you can use face wash twice daily.

  4. It would be best to do certain dietary restrictions like not taking oily spicy food, junk food, milk products, and non-vegetarian foods, and using lots of water that hydrates your skin.

    Thank you for consulting me.
