Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am starting tablet Levono-E Estrad for the first time (this is my first experience with hormone pills). The instructions are to start on the first day of your cycle or the following Sunday. I am often irregular, and sometimes skip monthly cycles. Can I start the pill on the day that I should have started my cycle, even if it seems as though I am not going to be actively menstruating? Will this have any affect on the effectiveness of the medication?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Contraceptive pills are hormones to be taken cyclically and try to regulate cycles. In the case of irregular bleeding, you do not know which one is a regular cycle or which is just spotting or unscheduled bleeding. Try to start on day one of bleeding, then use as directed. It will help to regulate the cycle accordingly. Have iron supplements as well to reduce the chances of anemia. You should know the side effects of hormonal contraceptives as well. It tries to regulate its cycle, but it can give u irregular spotting as it will still take some time to regulate the cycle, mood variations, breast engorgement, and long-term side effects (migraine, clot formation, breast, and endometrial cancer).

Have a healthy diet, daily exercise, and recreational activities. Try to have a full treatment of any problem you have been experiencing.

Best of luck.
