Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My partner has HSV-2. He previously got tested and they told him that it could potentially be a false negative, then he got tested again for which we are waiting for the results. We used protection but the condom broke and he ejaculated in me. Does that mean I have it now? I got tested last week and my result is normal. I am worried.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

In case he had active lesions the chance of getting HSV is high for you. Since there were equivocal results for him we can assume that the chance for you to get an HSV infection is low. It is a well-established fact that people with HSV-2 shed the virus in their body fluids including semen and this can be a source of infection for you. However, an antibody test in due course only can clarify the situation.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I made a mistake. Actually, I meant to say he could have got a false positive and we will not know if he has it or not until two to three days. If it is confirmed that he has it, how long should I wait to get it tested for me?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for clarifying his test results. In case he turns out negative there is no need to worry. In case his repeat tests show positive results it would be appropriate to get tested at the end of three weeks and three months. This is because the antibody tests can take somewhere between three weeks to three months in the case of HSV 2.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
