Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is it possible to have a negative HSV IGG test and be positive for HSV?

Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

If IGG (immunoglobulin G) is negative for HSV (herpes simplex virus), it cannot be positive, so if you have tested negative for HSV IGG, it is negative only. So do not worry; your partner will not get a virus from you. But in the future, it can be positive if you come in contact with someone positive.

Also, can you please share the pictures of your tongue?

And are you taking any medicines currently?

Kindly revert.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I have shared the picture. So there is no way that it could be herpes? It has been three years since my last partner. Have herpes tests been negative before taking antibiotics.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I reviewed your pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Your tongue appears to be sore due to ulcers, which is normal. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Also, if your test reports are negative, there is no chance it is herpes. The antibiotics affect the test but suppose if you are currently on antibiotics and do the test the next day, then there are chances that the test could be falsely negative. But the report is always correct if you have done the test one week after or before antibiotics. I want you to answer a few questions.

  1. Can you please tell me when you did do the testing?
  2. Were you taking antibiotics during that time?
  3. Do you have any digestion issues?

I suggest you to take a multivitamin tablet once a day before bed for 15 days.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
