Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I got my blood test results today. My fasting blood sugar is 97 mg/dL. But, my HbA1c is 6.89 with mean blood glucose at 144. I am going through premenopause and I am 49 years old female.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your message. I think I can help you.
This suggests a possible impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). I would recommend getting an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). While many consider it outdated, I think it would yield a diagnosis in your case. Upload the report for further suggestions.
Meanwhile, start a diabetic diet. Avoid sugar and a high-carbohydrate diet.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Over the last three months, I have been pretty stressed since my daughter got married 33 days ago. Will this have any effect on the test? Does this mean that I am diabetic or have a high disposition to diabetes?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
If the OGTT comes out to be positive, then you may be a diabetic. As of now, I would suggest that you have a predilection for diabetes. However, a high-calorie diet may have influenced HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), in which case, OGTT should be normal. Stress as such would not cause this.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
