Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Whenever I shave my legs, I get a bad razor burn and ingrown hairs all over my legs. I have tried everything from changing razors, shaving cream, and moisturizing lotions. How to treat this problem?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

The ingrown hairs are due to the daily trimming or shaving of hairs. The sharp tip of the hair comes in close contact with the skin surface due to wearing tight skinny jeans in hot, humid environments. It is more prone to grow sideways or curl back into the hair follicle and get stuck under the skin surface, leading to irritation and inflammation of the overlying skin. Treatment for ingrown hairs usually varies; sometimes, they will heal spontaneously without any specific treatment.

I suggest you use topical steroid cream like 0.1 % Mometasone once daily. Apply this cream for one to two weeks, which will help reduce inflammation.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
