Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 25 years old. I am getting eruptions and rashes on my face after shaving. It seems to be brown or red spots with inflammation. I do not have any burning sensation. Sometimes, I have blood oozing from it. I have tried changing my shaving cream, brushes, and razors. After doing a number of modifications, I got settled with a brush, cream, and razor producing minimum rashes. I consulted a dermatologist and he told it as a barber's itch. He suggested a cream and I used it. But I do not have any relief. Kindly help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the attached photo (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You seem to have sycosis barbae. It causes deep infection on the chin and beard. You can use Mupirocin ointment twice daily and take tablet Azithromycin 500 mg once daily for three days or take tablet Augmentin 625 mg three times a day for three days.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

It has been two weeks now. I have followed your instructions. But there is no relief. What to do?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your previous photos. It seems to be folliculitis. The infected part is known as sycosis barbae. In your case, the non-infective cause is your ingrown hair causing curling of hair. It can also occur due to faulty shaving (shaving in the opposite direction of the hair). You can use Fluticasone cream twice daily for five days and do shaving in the direction of the hair. Have a follow-up after five days.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
