Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female with a weight of 97 pounds and a height of five feet. I have inflammation and swelling in my knees due to a bed bug bite. I am not taking any medication. Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the attached picture (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You seem to have an insect bite reaction. The inflammation present around the area can be there for a minimum of two days and it subsides on its own. Do warm compress on the affected region. You can use Fusibet cream (Fusidic acid with Beclomethasone 0.1% cream) over the affected region twice daily after thorough cleaning of the area. Take tablet Paracetamol 500 mg twice daily for three days for the pain and inflammation. You can take tablet Teczine M (Montelukast with Levocetirizine) on the night for three days if there is itching. I am unable to see an open wound and taking oral antibiotics can help you a lot. Please send a more clear picture to see it. Do not be worried as this will subside soon.

The Probable causes

You seem to have a bed bug (Cimex lectularius) bite reaction.

Treatment plan

You can use Fusibet cream (Fusidic acid with Beclomethasone) on the affected region twice daily after thorough cleaning of the area for five days. You can take tablet Paracetamol 500 mg twice daily for three days for the pain and inflammation. You can take tablet Teczine (Montelukast with Levocetiriine) over the affected region at night for three days.

Preventive measures

Do not itch the area as it can lead to local infection.

Regarding follow up

Have a follow-up with a clear image after five days.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
