What has caused this swelling on my face, insect bite or allergy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have some skin issue on my face. It looks as if some insect has bitten on it and a bit swollen. Is that due to some allergy?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Based on your health concern and the photographs (attachment removed to protect patient identity), it appears to be an insect bite. To prevent aggravating the condition, avoid scratching the affected area. You can consider taking an antihistamine drug like Levocetirizine 5 mg tablet twice daily for five days to alleviate any itchiness. In case of pain, you may take Acenac-P (Aceclofenac and Paracetamol) tablet twice daily for five days. However, I strongly advise consulting with your specialist doctor, discussing the issue, and obtaining their consent before starting any medication. Refrain from frequently touching the affected area and avoid applying any topical substances on it.
