Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had bleeding in between my menstruation cycle. I also had bleeding one week after the intercourse last month and this month. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Could you please tell me when exactly after starting your periods you had bleeding? And how much is the amount of bleeding that you have between periods? Changes in sleep schedule and stress can have an adverse effect on the regularity of periods. If it continues and there is a lot of bleeding, I suggest taking oral contraceptive pills for three months to regularise your period cycles.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Last month I had my period at the beginning of the month and had intercourse around mid-month. Then four days after the intercourse, I had bleeding for three days. This month I had a normal period at the beginning of the month, and two days back, I noticed spotting, which was lighter than last month's. Can this be a sign of sexually transmitted infections? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If the bleeding is specifically after intercourse, then it could be a sign of infection. I would suggest getting a Pap (Papanicolaou test) smear and a pelvic examination to look for any signs of infection.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Can this also indicate cancer? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Cervical cancer is one of the causes of postcoital bleeding but is not the most common. Infections are way more common than cancer. A Pap smear is a screening tool for cervical cancer and to detect precancerous changes. Also, cervical cancer develops over the years, so you are unlikely to have it. I would suggest you get a Pap smear immediately as that would identify infections and give you a written report to rule out cancer.

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Should I wait for the bleeding to stop before taking? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it would be best to do it after the bleeding stops.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
