Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My canines are triangular, and they grew at the upper side of my gum, while the rest of my teeth grew at the normal side of my gums, which makes the canines look shorter than the rest and really weird. I underwent trauma while my teeth were growing so, they fell out, I think that made them grow at the upper part of my gum. Can my teeth be straightened without braces?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to the details provided, there does not seem any issue to worry about. At 11 years of age, permanent teeth erupt replacing the deciduous ones. Deciduous ones being wider give some amount of space which is utilized by the permanent teeth to align themselves.

Second, the growth of the child happens till about 13-14 years in the case of females and 15-16 years in males. So, there seems a significant growth still pending which should also favor your case.Canines are supposed to be conical in shape. The average age of canine eruption is 11 years and they develop till about 13-14 years of age. So, the canines looking short is not a thing I would be concerned about as of now.

Regarding erupting at the upper part of the gum, there could be 2 reasons: Either they are still erupting and will eventually come down to their normal positions or they are not having enough space to come into their normal position. I feel the 1st option is more likely present.

There are no mechanics that can help the teeth or jaw growth, but we can assist them in growing faster. However, all these are just theoretical general discussions, and in order to give you specific answers, pertaining to your scenario, I would require pictures of you and your teeth to assess the situation.

Once the situation is known, treatment options can be discussed and the best possible option can be chosen by you.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
