How do I stop my vulva from itching and burning?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from itching, burning sensation, and inflammation in my private part. I underwent a swab test, and the results were normal. What could be the reason?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

The reason for your constant itching and burning in the vulval area is most likely due to a fungal infection. These are common symptoms of fungal infection but do not worry, as this is easily treatable. So, I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Take a tablet of Fluconazole (antifungal) 150 mg, one tablet in the afternoon on alternate days for three days, and two tablets of Secnidazole (Nitroimidazoles) 1 gm after dinner for one day.
  2. Use Candid (Clotrimazole) dusting powder on the affected area twice daily.
  3. Always keep the perineal area dry.
  4. After using the washroom, wipe it with a cotton cloth or tissue paper. Clean from forward to backward.
  5. Wear loose cotton undergarments.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them and take medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I have already taken those medications; swabs test reports were sent, and there is no infection. But still, this has been ongoing for eight weeks. Kindly give your suggesstions.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Treatment is usually based on symptoms and examination. The fungal infection does not need to be 100 % detected on swab analysis. So I suggest you to follow this treatment. These medicines have no side effects, so you can take them without worrying.

Also, take some probiotics like Vizylac rich twice daily for five days.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
