Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from jaundice for the last three days. The day before yesterday, I had a drink, then on next day, when I woke up, my eyes and face color became yellowish. I also vomited in the morning. It was the first time in my life that I had jaundice. I take tablet Hepamerz. Please tell me the best medicines for jaundice.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

I suggest you include the following home food plan:

  • Whole grains are very beneficial to consume. These can be in the form of bran, whole wheat bread or cereal, brown rice, whole grain pasta, and grains such as whole oats, wild rice, rye, oatmeal, and corn are also beneficial and can be taken if they suit your food pattern.
  • Fruits and vegetables should be a significant part of any diet to help in recovering from liver disease. They are full of essential nutrients and are easy to digest. When in recovery, I suggest you follow a high-carbohydrate diet. The fat content of the diet should be very low. However, olive oil, canola oil, and flaxseed oil are all healthy fats that are recommended as part of a diet for patients.
  • Healthy proteins in the form of low-fat milk and dairy products, along with lean meats, beans, eggs, and soy products, can also be a part of a healthy liver diet.
  • Consume high-fiber foods as a part of a high-fiber diet.

Grain products: 6 to 11 servings of grain products in your diet are required daily. Whole grain slices of bread, whole wheat, mixed grain, cracked wheat, buns, muffins, brown rice or whole wheat pasta, cereals made from whole grain, oatmeal, ground flax, wheat, or baked goods with wheat bran.

Vegetables: Three to five servings of vegetables like spinach, broccoli, green peas, green beans, and turnip greens daily. Dark green leafy vegetables contain the highest amounts of fiber.

Fruits: Two to three servings of fruits. Apples, oranges, pears, peaches, berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries), dried fruits (dates, prunes, apricots, legumes, nuts, and seeds).

Vitamin C: It maintains healthy blood vessels and tissue matrix and increases the body's immunity. Rich sources are blackberries, raspberries, broccoli, spinach, guavas, amla, lime melon, orange, papaya, pineapple, and tomato.

Vitamin E: It is a fat-soluble vitamin that maintains healthy cell membranes as well as the prevention of inflammation.

But my suggestion is that as per your age, it is normal, so do not panic about it. See mild to moderate fatty liver is very common after the age of 45 in females. As the age of a person increases, fat begins to accumulate in various parts of the body, like blood vessels (atherosclerosis) or the liver (fatty liver). It is very natural and a part of a process called aging. The amount of fatty acid in the liver depends on the balance between the processes of delivery and removal. As the age increases, the number of transporter cells which carry fat from the liver to peripheral parts (for utilization decreases), causing increased deposition of these fatty acids in the liver. Secondly, in diabetic patients, there is increased resistance to insulin which is further responsible for the accumulation of fatty acids in the liver. Yes, it could definitely be controlled by diet and exercise (however, mild fatty liver has no significance in clinical practice).

Hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.
