Why does severe joint pain occur in a person with arthritis symptoms in the neck and wrist for 10 years?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having symptoms of arthritis in my neck and wrist for the past few years and it is getting worse nowadays. Initially, I thought it could be due to an old car accident. Sometimes I think that it could be due to aging. My joint pain is extremely worse now. I consulted my general practitioner and I thought she would diagnose my condition as lupus. But she did not confirm it and advised me to consult a rheumatologist. I am unable to get an appointment with a rheumatologist. Can you please help me to resolve my problem?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I went through the detailed description of your current health issue. Your symptoms at this young age are pointing towards some rheumatologic disease. I will be happy to help you solve your issues regarding your health. But I will be needing some more details. It would be very helpful if you can provide me with any of the blood reports or X-ray reports that you have had in recent times, which will guide us towards diagnosing the problem correctly and coming to the treatment part of it. I suggest you answer a few questions mentioned below:

  1. Do you feel any weakness in your arms or hands?
  2. Do you have any pain in the hands or fingers when you wake up in the morning?
  3. Please grade your pain on a scale from one to ten (where one stands for minimal and ten is unbearable).
  4. What is your current job profile? Is it a long-sitting, standing, or traveling kind of job?
  5. Do you have any other disease or currently taking any medicines?

Please, do share the details or prescription if any. I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
