Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is 8 years old and he eats junk food every day. I keep on insisting that it is bad for his health but continues taking junk food every day. He also looks obese when compared to his friends. How to control his binge eating?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Children often mimic their parent's eating habits. Therefore, it is essential to set a good example by eating a balanced diet yourself. Choose healthy foods and limit the amount of junk food in your home. Explain to your child why eating a balanced diet is essential for their health. Avoid using scare tactics, but instead, focus on the positive benefits of eating healthy foods, such as having more energy to play and learn. Involve your child in meal planning and preparation. Children are more likely to eat food that they have helped prepare. Involve your child in planning and preparing meals, and let them choose healthy snacks. Set clear guidelines for what your child can and cannot eat, and stick to them. Do not make exceptions, even on special occasions. Keep junk food out of sight and reach. Stock your home with healthy snacks like fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Encourage your child to engage in physical activity every day. This can include playing outside, joining a sports team, or taking a family walk after dinner.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
