Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a CT scan today and two punctate stones were found in the mid-lower portion of my right kidney. I was advised they measured 0.03 to 0.07 inch. I currently have urologic issues of possible stricture near the tip of the penis. In addition, I have a lifelong urine flow issue where the flow is not strong. I have not spoken to my urologist yet but given my history of possible stricture and weak flow, I am concerned about my ability to pass these on my own. I would like your opinion on my options. Is lithotripsy an option? Can these stones get bigger? Does the location of the stones have any significance? I did have calcium oxalate stones seven years ago. At the moment, I do not have bad pain. A recent urine culture found no infection. If these are calcium oxalate too, anything I can do to may help dissolve them given they are small?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Relax and do not worry. 0.03 to 0.07 inchstones in lower pole are very, very small in size. As far as treatment is concerned, they do not require any treatment like lithotripsy because they are very very small. Regarding precautions, you should take precautions to prevent their increase in size. You need to drink plenty of water up to 0.6 gallons per day. You need to take food containing low in oxalates. There are so many foods having oxalates. A complete list you can get from the internet. So, avoid these foods. You can follow up with the ultrasound every six months to check for an increase in size. Regarding stricture, you require may be a cystoscopy and optical urethrotomy as adviced by your urologist.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Any recommendations on what to take are to reduce the size of the stone? Should I read about potassium supplements? Also, I am not sure what you meant by the lower pole.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can take supplements like Syrup K Cit (Citric Acid and Potassium Citrate) and Potrate-MB6. You need to take it 0.3 ounce in the morning and evening with a glass of water. Take it for 60 days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and with their consent take the medicines. This will help reduce the size of the stones. With the lower pole, I meant it is in the lower portion of your kidney.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
