Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a cold for three weeks, initially presenting with severe symptoms such as congestion and frequent sneezing. I am somewhat past the cold, but my voice sounds very weird. It is incredibly nasal, and I struggle to pronounce words containing 'b' or 'd' sounds. When articulating these letters, I feel resistance in the back of my throat where my mouth and nose meet, extending into my nasal cavity. My voice has sounded this way for five days now. I visited a doctor who recommended that I should see an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist), but the wait for an appointment is two weeks. Additionally, I am experiencing a sensation of dizziness, although not accompanied by nausea. It feels like I do not have full control over my body, like my head is floating, and my balance is compromised. Moreover, when I drink water, I occasionally feel it getting caught in the back of my throat and then coming up through my nose. Other than these symptoms, I feel completely fine. I have reasonable energy, no fever or chills, no sore throat or cough, and no runny nose. I kindly request your insight into what might be wrong. My voice is causing me considerable embarrassment at the moment. Please help. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. You may be experiencing some complications of a viral cold, such as laryngopharyngitis, labyrinthitis, and palatal paresis. The mentioned symptoms do not require excessive worry, as these cases usually have a good prognosis. However, I suggest you to take the medications and follow the instructions mentioned below: 1. Decongestant and antihistamine medications. 2. Steroids. 3. Steam inhalation. 4. Methylcobalamin (a form of vitamin B12). Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take the medications with their consent. I hope the above suggestions will help resolve your problem within a week. Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
