How to treat lumbar radiculopathy pain in a 52-year-old?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My uncle 52 years old, complains of pain in the right leg for one month. The pain starts from the lower back and radiates to the toes. Sometimes pain occurs from the knee to the toes only. There is a tingling sensation in the sole after the movement for some time.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This is typically a radicular pain which could be due to compression in the lumbar spine. There are three ways of treatment. First is medications. I am sure you have not taken the proper dose of Pregabalin.

If not responding to medications, then we can give a transforaminal injection. If not responded to both, then the third option is surgery.

Thank you.
