Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
How and why do people change when they become aware of certain behaviors, such as eating too many calories and junk food, not moving enough, having high blood pressure, and so on? Can fitness trackers help people live healthier lives than ever before? If yes, how?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
We used to have food scarcity and too much physical labor. As a result, obesity and lifestyle diseases are decreasing in the population. People eat more when there is more food available and less when there is no food available.
The agricultural revolution and a smart public distribution system followed. Food has become plentiful. We could not break our centuries-old habit. We began to eat more. Then came Industrial, IT (information technology) developments, and the opening up of markets. It resulted in less physical activity, excessive mental strain, irregular working hours, and the availability of cheap, tasty junk food. All this started leading to lifestyle diseases like obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.
In the current period, when the diseases mentioned above began to skyrocket, people began to realize that they were overeating, eating junk calories, foods with high fat and salt content, and leading sedentary lifestyles. When they began to see their parents, relatives, and friends contracting these diseases, they realized there was no way out because they, too, lead a similar lifestyle.
The awareness era began. The availability of resources on the internet, and health magazines is changing people's minds about living a healthy and fit life. Wearable devices are changing the way people think about fitness. Applications have improved how and when people walk. Walking 10,000 steps per day is said to keep the doctor away. It also tracks the number of steps you take, your goal, how many calories you burn, how far you have to walk, and so on.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
