Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 25 year old female. Please provide some insights into the following questions.

  1. What are lipids, and what is their role in the body?
  2. How do lipids affect heart health?
  3. What is a lipid profile, and what does it consist of?
  4. What are the ideal or healthy lipid levels I should aim for?
  5. If my lipid levels are outside the recommended range?
  6. What lifestyle changes or treatments can help improve them?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Lipids are fat content that is deposited in the body as adipose tissues, and they bind in the blood as lipoproteins that help transport oxygen, food substances, and blood products. Lipids affect the heart by causing coronary disease when the levels are elevated in the blood. A lipid profile is a test that checks the level of fats in the blood, and it consists of triglycerides, Low-density lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein.

An ideal lipid level is a normal standard level of fats in the bloodstream, and the value to aim at is within 3.4mmol/l. The lifestyle changes include restricting fat intake, exercising regularly, and eating more proteins and carbohydrates. For the medications, you can use the tablet Atorvastatin 10 mg when needed.

Thank you.
