Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 5-month-old son, weighing around 13 pounds, has had loose motion from yesterday in watery form at least seven times.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I suggest you give him a probiotic containing spores of poly antibiotic-resistant Bacillus Clausii 1 respule twice a day for five days (to be kept in the fridge) and an oral rehydration solution of 2.36 ounces with each loose motion. Watch for dehydration, lethargy, and a refusal to feed. If there is no improvement, or if there is a worsening of symptoms, take the child to the nearest hospital.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

He has motion just after having milk.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Please note that it is normal for children below the age of 10 months to pass stools either 10 to 20 times a day or once in two to three days. Both are fine and are not labeled as constipation or diarrhea. No treatment is required in such cases. Treatment is only required when there is documented fever, lethargy, or refusal to feed. In your case, you has mentioned it is watery, which is why the treatment has been started. Also, sometimes children pass stools immediately after consuming milk. This is known as the gastro-colic reflex. It is a normal phenomenon.

I hope this helps.
