What should we do to enhance my dad's appetite?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My father is 76 years old. He had an accident and got a blood clot on his right auditory nerve. The doctor said that he will be fine in some three months. But, he has become worse. He lost his appetite and not eating anything. He vomits every day. He is unable to recognize anyone. He is not sleeping. He has lost weight and looking more skinny. What should we do to get his appetite better? His sugar level is slightly above than normal and he also has high BP. He is on regular tablets for sugar and fits. I have attached his scan and blood test reports for your reference.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your question. The issues that you are describing are mainly because of lack of proper rehabilitation measures. Need to give music in his ear through headphones for at least 4 hours a day. It should not be very loud, just medium is fine. He has to be mobilized out of bed. He has to stay in sitting position for at least 8 hours a day. It can be done simply by elevating the head end of the bed and putting some pillows on sides with hands on those pillows. Passive limb physiotherapy has to be done for 15 minutes every one hour for at least 13 hours a day. If all this is done, the energy consumption would increase, his metabolism would improve and nervous system would be stimulated. Then, the chance of his recovery will increase. You really need to be more aggressive on this.
