Can low libido affect pregnancy chances despite normal test?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Trying to get pregnant since last year. All the tests for both of us are fine. The only problem is that we are not very high on libido. What steps should I take to manage this?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

By saying that all tests were normal, I hope you mean

  • Blood sugars, thyroid profile, and prolactin hormone levels.
  • Husband's semen analysis.
  • Wife's scan of uterus and ovaries.
  • Fallopian tube patency is tested with HSG (hysterosalpingography) or laparoscopy.

Now, for loss of libido, the following reasons are to be addressed.

  • The above-mentioned blood tests.
  • Kindly seriously think of shedding a few pounds. Your expected body weight is 115 to 125 lbs.
  • Try to reduce any physical or mental stress.
  • Diabetes has to be ruled out with HbA1c.

If all these are normal, there is no reason for you to worry, and you will surely get pregnant.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
