Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 25-year-old woman. I have been experiencing a lack of sexual arousal for nearly three years now. I am using lubricants and still, I do not feel anything good. When I was younger, I did not have this problem. I also have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). I am currently taking vitamin D, Inositol, Zinc, and Magnesium supplements. What could be the reason for this lack of arousal? Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

There can be various factors that contribute to a lack of arousal or difficulty experiencing pleasure during sexual activity. It is important to understand that sexual arousal is a complex process influenced by physical, emotional, and psychological factors.

1. Psychological factors: Stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, body image concerns, or past traumas can affect sexual arousal. It may be beneficial to explore these aspects and consider seeking support from a mental health professional or a sex therapist.

2. Hormonal imbalances: Hormonal changes, such as those associated with certain medications, medical conditions (like polycystic ovary syndrome or thyroid disorders), or menopause, can impact sexual arousal. As you mentioned you have PCOS, manage that well.

3. Medications: Certain medications, such as antidepressants or birth control pills, can affect sexual desire or arousal. Discussing these concerns with your healthcare provider can help explore alternatives or adjustments to medication if appropriate.

4. Relationship dynamics: The quality of your relationship and communication with your partner can significantly impact sexual arousal. Openly discussing your feelings, desires, and concerns with your partner may help create a more supportive and satisfying sexual experience.

5. General health and well-being: Factors like fatigue, poor sleep, lack of exercise, or an unhealthy lifestyle can affect sexual arousal. Prioritizing self-care and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can promote overall well-being, including sexual health.
