Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 33 years old married woman with a kid, working. Recently, took a health check-up and found that my vitamin D levels are very low 5.24 ng/ml, vitamin B12 332 pg/ml. Every now and then I have stiffness in my neck and uneasiness in my knees. Can you please suggest me vitamin D supplements to overcome this deficiency, duration of intake and side effects, if any. I am a non-vegetarian and currently not taking any supplements and not under any medication. Should I be taking any other supplements apart from vitamin D considering my age is above 30.

Apart from the vitamin D deficiency, I could see some abnormal values for lymphocyte percentage, lymphocytes absolute count, monocytes absolute count, total RBC, platelet distribution width (PDW) and platelet to large cell ratio (PLCR). Attaching my health report for your further reference. Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your vitamin D and HDL are low, and iron levels are low normal. Rest all reports are fine (attachment removed to protect patient identity). So, for vitamin D, you should have tablet Uprise D3 (or Calcitriol sachets) 60,000 units with milk once a week for eight weeks and then once a month for the next six months. This will cure deficiency and also replenish your stores. May cause some gastritis, otherwise safe.

For HDL, you do not need to have anything, but just have a healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty oily food, regular exercises like brisk walking or running according to capacity. Also, for iron, have iron rich food like green leafy vegetables like spinach or jaggery, etc.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
