What to do for low Vitamin D levels?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Yesterday I took blood tests for hemogram, fasting sugar, and vitamin D. My vitamin D is too low. It is lower than 3. I have tiredness and joint pain too. Please suggest some medicines and diets.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your post. However, please attach your recent blood reports.

  • If you are saying your vitamin D is low, then I would suggest you start supplements of vitamin D. Its deficiency can cause joint pains. I suggest you try taking capsule Lumia 60K (Cholecalciferol) weekly for eight weeks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for replying. Here is the photocopy of the report. I am attaching it for your review.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I received your investigations and went through them (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

  • You have severe vitamin D deficiency. Rest of the investigations are normal, except for a mild increase in the eosinophil count, which I believe is normal up to 10 % eosinophils.
  • As I already advised, vitamin D supplements need to be started soon.
  • I also suggest taking antihelminthic tablets such as Albendazole 400 single dose as sometimes a gut infestation may cause the eosinophil count to rise.

Regards.
