Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have low neutrophils and a low white blood cell count (WBC count score of 3.4). However, everything else in my CBC is usually normal; what should I do to ensure that it is not cancer or anything serious?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

I read your query and understand your concern.

Your CBC (complete blood count) report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) shows a minimally low WBC (white blood cell) count and neutrophil count. As the WBC count is low, that is why neutrophils also otherwise, a percentage of neutrophils is fine. Anyway, these WBC findings are not significant as you are asymptomatic. I mean, you do not have any health issues. Such low WBC can sometimes be due to unrecognized minor viral infections. So do not worry about these WBC results. After two months, you can repeat CBC with peripheral blood film and follow up with the report.

Thank you.
