Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My sister has been struggling with major depressive disorder for two years. She is 28 years old, and is overweight. She has been feeling withdrawn, lacks interest in activities, has no friends, and constantly feels tired. Her doctor prescribed Vryalor for her condition. Can you please provide information on whether Vryalor is effective in treating major depressive disorder? We are hoping it might help alleviate her symptoms and bring some relief.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern about your sister. She may have major depressive disorder (as per your details). Her doctor has prescribed her tablet Vraylar for her depression. It is a second-generation antipsychotic medication. It can help her but there are other good medications to deal with depression. SSRI groups are one of the best to treat depression. I will prefer SSRI group medication if your sister has only depression. There is non-pharmacological management for her depression, she should try to follow the below guidelines to deal with it. It will help her.

1. She should do exercises daily for 30 to 45 minutes like at least going for a walk.

2. She should do meditation for 20 minutes daily, just sit in one place in a comfortable position, and try to concentrate on her normal breathing, don't stop or force herself to stop her thoughts, just let it be. It will relax her.

3. She should eat healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.

4. She must drink enough water.

5. She should spend quality time with friends and family daily or do video calls if they are living away from her.

6. She should spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.

7. She should get seven to eight hours of sleep daily.

8. She must avoid tobacco alcohol or any substance abuse.

9. Give her a reason to live her life, do not just spend it. Be bold and confident.

I hope that you get your answer. Kindly, let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
