Hello doctor,

I am a 36 year old single male. I have severe hair fall and I feel that I am going bald. You can see in the attached pictures. Around two years back, hair fall started and the volume reduced to half of my original hair. Now, I feel almost all hair has gone. I am taking antidepressant medicines Daxid 200 mg, Maxmala 50 mg and Olanzapine 2.5 for the last 10 to 12 years of stress, anxiety and eating disorder problem. I have male baldness pattern. My father and grandfather got bald at age of 35 and I feel that baldness is in my gene. I have used Minoxidil 5% for approximately seven months, but did not find any good results. So, I stopped taking it before three months. Now every day about 100 hairs are falling and crown, forehead, upper and middle head has become completely bald. I took multivitamin, Biotin and Androanagen tablets for a few months, but had no use. Please suggest me some ways to save the existing hair. Also, suggest me some fast method of therapies to regrow hair as I am looking for a life partner. Please suggest treatments without side effects.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • Unfortunately, the medicine that you have taken for the male pattern baldness does not work much in this condition. After certain limit, oil and tablets are useless.
  • As you are young, hair transplant is the only way to get your hair back. You are a good choice for hair transplant as your donor area (back of the scalp) is good. In seven to eight months, you will get the proper look again.
  • Stress is another factor, which increases the hair fall. Though you are taking medicine for that, please avoid it as much as you can.
  • I recommend hair transplant as the best way to get your hair back. It is safe and highly successful procedure.

Thank you doctor,

What are your reviews on Finasteride 1 mg, Minoxidil 15 % or 30 % and PRP? Someone told me that Finasteride creates sexual side effect. Please clarify. Will the hairs be permanent after a hair transplant? Will I be required to take any medicines after hair transplant? Are there any reliable hair transplant centers near my place? Which is the best method in hair transplant, either urgical with pain or non-surgical without pain? In my case, how many sessions are required for hair transplant? Apart from hair transplant, are there any other options? Please clarify.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There are some side effects on sexual health with the use of Finasteride, but 1 mg is a very low dose.

  • I usually prescribe Finasteride for three months continuously and then stop for one month. However, Finasteride, Minoxidil and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) have dependency effect. Once these medicines are stopped, then there will be hair fall again. So, these are not permanent cure. You cannot continue these medicines for many years.
  • The hair after transplant will be permanent. There is no need of any medicine after hair transplant, as the transplant itself is the treatment.
  • Follicular unit extraction - FUE is a good and painless method of hair transplantation and has no risk. You might require two sessions of hair transplant.
  • Hair transplant is the only permanent cure or you can wear artificial wigs.

Thank you doctor,

Could you please tell me, whether I can use Finasteride 1 mg for hair loss until I get a hair transplant? If I can take the medicine, kindly tell me how to take it. As I am on antidepressants, will it have an effect on sexual health or on liver and kidney? Do I need to go to a local dermatologist for a second opinion? In how many months will the hair regrow with Finasteride? Kindly clarify.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • You can take Finasteride 1 mg daily for three months. Then, stop it for 15 to 20 days. Again, restart the medicine and continue for three months. You can take the medicine in this pattern for about a year.
  • Finasteride will stop your hair fall and you will get almost 40% to 60% hair back. Again, if you stop the medicine, there will be hair fall.
  • You can take antidepressants with Finasteride as there are no side effects reported. But, keep an eye. If you feel dizziness, headache or have any urine problem, then it needs to be evaluated.
  • You will start responding within 20 days of treatment with Finasteride. It stops hair fall very soon and hair will grow back in two months. But, you will not get 100% hair as many roots are lost in baldness and they will not grow back.

Thankyou.

Thank you doctor,

Last year, I had visited a dermatologist for the hair fall problem. He prescribed me 1 mg Finasteride daily for three months with Minoxidil 5%. I did not take Finasteride because of the fear of side effects as sexual behavior and organ failures. But, at that moment, I was using Minoxidil continuously. It has been three months since I stopped Minoxidil. They told me that I have androgenic alopecia and suggested Finasteride 1 mg. If I am taking Finasteride, which brand should I take and at what dosage? I had visited two different dermatologists previously. One of them had prescribed Finasteride with Minoxidil. The other dermatologist had prescribed Minoxidil with Biotin and Androgen capsules. As I am taking antidepressants, I am always confused and have dizziness and headache with no interest in the job. So, will Finasteride create any problem? For how many years can I use this medicine without any side effect? How many hairs will I get back on the head with this medicine? Will this medicine create any sexual problem after marriage? Shall I start taking Finasteride from tomorrow without any second thought?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • As I told you before, this medicine has dependency effect. You will not have hair fall till you continue the medicine. Once you stop it, again hair fall will start. The hair that are weak will suddenly start falling.
  • Now, you do not need to go to any dermatologist. You can directly start taking medicine as prescribed.
  • You can use either tablet Finax 1 mg or tablet Finpecia 1 mg. The medicine is safe and as you have taken previously and you can start directly.
  • You can take 1 mg daily for three months and then stop for three weeks and again take for three months. You can take it once a day at any time.
  • You can take this medicine safely for one to two years. You may not have the hair that you had 10 years ago, but it will be almost 50% and hair fall will completely stop.
  • Finasteride is safe and it does not have any interaction with antidepressant medicine. You can take it safely.
  • You should stop taking Finasteride one month before marriage, so that there will not be even any chance of effect during sexual activity.

Hello doctor,

I am using Finax 1 mg continuously for the last eight months. Shall I continue this or stop for some days? Will it cause any health issue if used for long? I am unmarried. I am taking antidepressants Paxidap 37.5 and Nortimer 50 mg with this. Will it create any adverse effect? I did not observe much changes in my hair. I am feeling light headache for last three to four days. I have attached photos for your reference. Thank you.

HI,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • Yes, now you should stop it for three to four weeks and then you can start again.
  • As I told you it is hormone condition and very difficult to stop altogether. If your hair still in the same situation as eight months back means the medicine is working.
  • There is no side effect with other medicine. So, you can take it.
  • A headache could be due to any other cause. Finax is not known for causing a headache.

Thank you doctor,

How many years can I take this? My hair density was perfect. Can Finax bring that hair mass back? Still, 10-20 hair fall every day even using Finax daily. I did not see any growth of hairs. When can it be stopped altogether? I am very fond of head massage because of stress, anxiety, and heaviness in head.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • You cannot take Finax for a long time. And as I told it is hormonal, it is difficult to stop hair fall completely.
