Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I woke up this morning to see a small red line or vein on the top of my left breast. I had a breast check up and mammogram 6 months ago which was clear. Is this normal? What is it?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
This does not appear worrisome to me (attachment removed to protect patient identity). This appears like erythematous lesion due to inflammation. This has probably occurred due to some trauma, such as pressure from folds in clothing or a bed sheet or lying over the chest. Also, rule out the possibility of a bite or nail scratching. If this is generalized and also present on the other body parts, then it may be related to some infection.
So, usually, such a single visible vein is not significant. It should settle in a day or two. But if it continues to persist or increase in number or any other symptoms like swelling, pain, or fever appears then we will need examination or investigations. At present, there does not appear significant or serious issue.
Hope this helps you, and get back to me if you have any doubts.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
Can you confirm what this is behind my ear? I have had a few of them before and the pharmacist said insect bites.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
These appear like benign lesions, such as pimples, and occur due to obstruction of glands. These may be insect bites especially if there are insects around, but as these are not inflamed and there is no itching, less likely to be insect bites. So, appears like a benign lesion and not worrisome.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
I have been putting Antihistamine cream as there are two red spots left. Is this normal and will it go away? I just want to check it is not swollen glands.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You may putantihistaminic cream, but make sure it does not contain Steroids. Do you mean swollen lymph nodes? These are not swollen lymph nodes, but may be swollen sebaceous glands(oil-producing glands). Such superficial lesions usually involves sebaceous or sweat glands, which usually settle with time. In my opinion, these should go in 2-3 days. These are superficial lesions, while lymph nodes are located deeper.
The best way to confirm lymph nodes is palpation. Normally, lymph nodes may be palpable upto size of pea and when size is more than 1 cm then considered abnormal.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
