I used to masturbate a lot. Has it caused decrease in penis size?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Due to excessive masturbation during my teenage years, I feel that my penis has become shorter and thinner. I am now 22 years old.

Is it possible to regain its previous size by following any instructions or advice from you? I do not drink alcohol or smoke.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Masturbation is a normal and generally safe practice that does not cause any serious health problems. It does not lead to a reduction in penis size. The size of the penis is generally determined by genetics and does not decrease as a result of masturbation.

If you feel that your penis has become smaller, the perception may be related to psychological factors or changes in erection quality rather than an actual reduction in size. If you are able to achieve and maintain a normal erection, there is usually no cause for concern. Additionally, penis size plays a limited role in sexual satisfaction and intercourse.

Some people try exercises such as jelqing, which involves repeated milking-like movements on a semi-erect penis. However, there is no strong scientific evidence that jelqing increases penis size, and it may carry a risk of injury if performed improperly.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
