Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is it possible for a single man to completely stop masturbating? What would happen to his prostate if he manages to stop masturbating completely? I am curious about this because I have heard that masturbation reduces a man's chance of getting prostate cancer. I believe this is a myth. Can this be true?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your first query consult is on us!

You are right in questioning whether masturbation decreases the chances of prostate cancer. This inference cannot be drawn conclusively as it has not been proved with high-quality data. But the thought behind this hypothesis is that decreased frequency of ejaculation can cause prostatic inflammation in some males. A benign condition like hematospermia is also mostly caused by prolonged abstinence. None of these can directly lead to prostate cancer and are self-limiting. Even if a person completely stops masturbation, after a period he will have nocturnal ejaculation and semen will be discharged. So semen that is produced will be discharged naturally if not by voluntary means like sexual activity or masturbation. If you have any specific doubts, other aspects can be discussed. Kindly mention what is the reason for considering stopping masturbation completely.
