Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Is it normal to see tiny specks in vision when looking at plain wall or plain surface or when in darkness. My retina check is fine. Is it something to worry about? Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, it is very much normal to see specks in vision. It is more realized by a normal person while looking at plain wall or in dark areas. There is a fluid called vitreous in the posterior cavity of the eyeball. It is in gel form, but as age advances this fluid starts liquefying slowly. This vitreous liquefaction casts shadow on the retina. Sometimes, it also happens due to dryness of eyes for which lubricant eye drops are suggested. So, there is no need to worry until it is marked or causing any disturbance in vision.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for reply.

When searched online, there is discussion about visual snow. That actually scares me. Do you think it as hoax?

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can consider it as only a hoax. I have read it, but these are only case reports and related to brain activities. It seems illogical till it gets proved. A lot of studies actually required to believe in it. So, better to ignore.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply

You said, there is no need to worry till it is marked or causes disturbance in vision. Actually, It is already marked and noticeable on certain surfaces or conditions. And, sometimes make me feel tense. But, you said that all normal person sees this. Does that mean I should ignore it? Probably, should I be aware in case I find any other disturbance in vision? Is there any way to make vision crystal clear? Also, on the white of my eye, I have a small brown line. I read somewhere it is melanin pigment and is usually present in some races. In case it changes its shape or size, then it needs to be checked. Is this true?

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

This brown line, a melanin deposition, is also not a pathological finding. Until and unless there is any problem in vision do not get scared either for this deposition or for vitreous degeneration.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

But, I do think these tiny specks visible on certain surface are already a problem in vision. What is your opinion?

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it is a problem only if you are realizing it as a problem. It will get resolved. It is self-limiting and so for some time ignore it.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you

I have been noticing it as long as I remember, from childhood and I am 33 now. May be I should continue to ignore it since it is harmless.

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you should try.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Are these really visible to everyone on certain surfaces?

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, it is observed by a few people only.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

But, we discussed above, it is normal to see these specks and probably only few people observe. Is it true?

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it is normal and only a few will observe.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Is it also normal to see these tiny specks sometimes on dark surface? I understand something visible on light color will surely be present in other surfaces too, but would be less prominent. And there is a term closed-eye visualization, which also makes me feel such things will be normal in darkness.

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

You should visit an ophthalmologist for detailed examination, because explaining anything like this gives no clue about the disease.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

My retina check is fine. I had got it checked. I was advised these were normal observation. Probably, I should ignore. I am being anxious. Thank you for your advice doctor.

Answered by Dr. Shikha Gupta
