Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can you please review my MRI scan and check if everything is normal, and is there anything to worry about?

Answered by Dr. Hitesh Kumar

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) shows most structures visible within normal limits except incident mega cisterna magna.

Cisterna magna is a normal CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) filled space on the backside of the brain. However, in many individuals, it can be more extensive, called mega cisterna magna, and that usually does not cause any symptom to the patient.

It needs to be differentiated from an arachnoid cyst or cerebellar atrophy, or dandy walker syndrome.

If any secondary cause of mega cisterna magna is found, that needs to be addressed.

But if it is idiopathic and without any other cause, mostly it is an incidental finding and does not cause symptoms.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the insight,

So, I do not have to be worried about the mega cisterna magna? Do I need any new scans, or is everything normal?

Thank you for answering. I appreciate it.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

About mega cisterna magna, you should not worry much. Most often, it is an incidental finding and does not cause symptoms. However, everything is not ruled out by MRI.

There are so many other causes of headache, in which MRI can be normal too. For your symptoms and possible cause and treatment, you should consult in person with the specialist doctor.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
